About
I’m Johannes Homeier, an independent product engineer and tech lead based in Regensburg, Germany. I’ve spent more than thirteen years building web software: shipping products, shaping the interfaces people actually touch, and leading small teams through the parts that are hard to get right.
How I work
I studied Media Informatics and Information Science with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction and usability engineering, and that shows in how I approach engineering work. I don’t think of user needs, design and implementation as three separate jobs handed down a line — the interesting decisions live where they meet. In practice that means I’m as comfortable arguing about an empty state or a loading transition as about a schema migration or a deployment topology.
Most of my work is hands-on. I write the code, and I stay close enough to the product to push back when a requirement is going to produce something nobody wants to use. I care a great deal about the details most people skip: the second click, the error message, the case where the network is slow.
What I do
I take on senior engineering across a small number of concurrent client projects, usually where the work needs architecture judgement as much as delivery. That has recently included a mail client and offer wizard inside a B2B parcel-delivery company’s CRM, and a distributable web component for pushing construction-material catalogs out to dealer networks.
Typical engagements involve TypeScript, React or Angular, Node and NestJS, and increasingly AI-assisted development workflows. I also do architecture review, frontend performance and accessibility work, and technical due diligence.

Before going independent I co-founded and ran bynary, a development agency, for close to ten years, growing it to a team of ten and shipping over a hundred projects across adtech, healthcare, biotech, fintech, e-commerce and travel. In 2025 we spun an internal tool out into siteboard, a website-analysis SaaS, where I joined as co-founder and CTO and owned the platform end to end — more than ten million audits across two thousand sites.
